The national news agency, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported on July 29 that, “In a rare gesture chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid today entertained senior BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy with lunch in his Minto Road office.” It also elaborated that, “Harun entertained the guest with the items of mutton, chicken, different types of fish curries, vegetables and seasonal fruits…A video clip of the lunch went viral on social media.” Similarly, other media hyped he was entertained with food items brought from the Hotel Sonargaon, a five star hotel.
Unfortunately, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy later himself expressed his disgust by defining the hospitality as a low etiquette and joke. He questioned, “Is it what the government wants to show that we are hungry? Feed ourselves by begging?” He also said, “The government cannot purchase Gayeshwar by any enticement. The government can arrest me, even kill me and this government has the ability. I had doubt about those food arrangements and even those were not healthy for me. As courtesy on request, I only eat rice, vegetable and a piece of Ruhu fish brought from Harun’s home.”
Consequently, in this media tell tale of the hospitality, I simply recall an English saying, “It’s funny, how when someone says they love you, you can’t really feel it, but when they say they don’t love you anymore, you can feel every ounce of what was drain out of your entire being.”
