New York:  In observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Muslim Officers Society (MOS) of the Nassau County Police Department hosted a warm and dignified interfaith Iftar gathering. The event brought together police officers from diverse faiths and backgrounds, community leaders, and distinguished guests, reflecting a spirit of unity, inclusion, and shared purpose. The program commenced with a welcome address delivered by MOS President Shakhawat Hafiz, who serves in the department’s 6th Precinct. In his remarks, he highlighted the spiritual significance of Ramadan — emphasizing self-purification, discipline, compassion, and mutual respect. He noted that the gathering was not merely an Iftar, but a platform to strengthen understanding and solidarity among communities.  MOS Vice President Mohammed Rahman, also serving in the 6th Precinct, played a key role in coordinating and organizing the successful event.Speakers throughout the evening underscored that Ramadan offers universal lessons that extend beyond the Muslim community — promoting tolerance, accountability, empathy, and positive civic engagement. They emphasized that such initiatives help reinforce trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the communities they serve.A special awards segment honored distinguished individuals for their leadership and contributions:  Patrick Ryder received the Founder Recognition Award in recognition of his steadfast support for diversity and inclusive leadership within the department. Mufti Nazrul Islam was presented with the Raees Leadership Award for his outstanding community leadership. Mufti Mohammad Farhan, PhD received the Light of Guidance Award in acknowledgment of his scholarly and spiritual contributions.  The evening concluded with prayers for peace, safety, and prosperity for the nation and for communities across Nassau County. Attendees expressed optimism that programs like this will continue to strengthen harmony, mutual respect, and collaboration among people of all backgrounds.    Organizers reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such gatherings in the future, spreading the timeless message of brotherhood and unity embodied in the holy month of Ramadan.
