Sahitya Academy’s Special Program on Sri Chinmoy’s 94th Birth Anniversary

New York, August 24:  A special program was held at the Sri Chinmoy Meditation Centre in New York on the occasion of the 94th birth anniversary of world peace messenger, poet, philosopher, and spiritual master Sri Chinmoy. The invited organization for this event was the Sahitya Academy.    From the very entrance, Sri Chinmoy’s devotees felt a unique atmosphere—silence, discipline, and mutual respect. The walls adorned with portraits of Sri Chinmoy at different stages of his life seemed to affirm that he was still present among all.   The program began at 7 p.m., conducted by Neera Qadri. Mosharraf Hossain, Director of the Sahitya Academy, paid tribute to Sri Chinmoy. The Centre’s Director, Ranjana K. Ghose, welcomed the guests with a heartfelt and inspiring address.    Poetic tributes were offered by Shams Al Momeen, Kazi Rafique, Benazir Shikder, M.A. Sadeq, Shaheen Ibne Delowar, Sohul Ahmed, Swapon Biswas, Tahmina Khan, Sumi Beg, and Akbar Haider Kiron.    Following the recitations, Professor Hosne Ara Begum and one of the key organizers, Surit Barua, shared their reflections.    The musical segment featured soulful performances by artists from the Bangladeshi Buddhist community—Progya Barua, Aakhi Barua, and Prerona Barua. In addition, a special presentation was offered by “Pari,” adding to the evening’s cultural richness. A choral performance by the Meditation Centre’s artists was another highlight of the program.    Before and after the program, guests were warmly welcomed with gracious hospitality, an experience many described as memorable. Another director of the Centre guided visitors through a universal photographic exhibition on Sri Chinmoy, which left a lasting impression. Before leaving, Neera Qadri and Akbar Haider Kiron penned their reflections in the special Visitors’ Book.    It may be noted that Sri Chinmoy, born in Chattogram, Bangladesh, dedicated his life to spreading peace, meditation, and music across the globe. His physical body rests at the Sri Chinmoy Meditation Centre, yet his spirit continues to inspire countless admirers worldwide.    With the participation of hundreds of devotees, the event created an atmosphere of deep reverence and devotion, leaving behind an unforgettable experience.
