On 03 November 2023, a U.S. Army War College delegation comprising of 23 members
visited the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations. The U.S. Army War College
has been visiting Bangladesh Mission every year in recent times to learn about the Mission’s work
and priorities. The delegation has particular interests in learning Bangladesh’s role and contribution
as top troop and police contributing country, both in the UN Headquarters and in the field.
This partnership between the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh and the U.S. Army War
College comes as recognition of Bangladesh’s remarkable contribution to UN peace operations and
the reputation and professionalism of Bangladeshi peacekeepers. A senior officer of Bangladesh
Army undergoing training in the War College was a part of this delegation.
The Permanent Representative (PR) of Bangladesh to the UN, Ambassador Muhammad A.
Muhith welcomed the delegation to the mission. In his welcome address, the PR focused on the
work, priorities and contribution of Permanent Mission as well as Bangladesh. He highlighted the
foreign policy dictum of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the
main source of Bangladesh’s activeness and contribution to the maintenance of international peace
and security. He portrayed Bangladesh’s contribution in UN Peacekeeping and peacebuilding as our
sacred responsibility. He also highlighted the issues such as LDC graduation, SDG attainment,
climate change, Rohingya issue and so on. He particularly mentioned about Bangladesh’s leadership
in women empowerment and development as well as advancing the Women Peace and Security
agenda under the able leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Defense Advisor (DA) of Bangladesh Permanent Mission Brigadier General Md
Sadequzzaman, ndc, afwc, psc, M Phil briefed the delegation about Bangladesh’s engagement in the
UN peacekeeping operations and the dedicated role played by the Bangladeshi peacekeepers. In the
presentation delivered by the Defence Adviser, he described the contribution of Bangladesh in UN
Peacekeeping in the 35 years long glorious journey of Bangladeshi peacekeepers. He also reiterated
Bangladesh’s steadfast commitment towards future peacekeeping.
