Bangamata’s 93rd birth anniversary observed at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington



Washington, DC, 08 August 2023—

The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC today (Tuesday) observed the 93rd birth
anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, recalling Bangamata's outstanding contributions to
independence struggle and rebuilding the country.
On the occasion, the Embassy organised different programs at the Bangabandhu Auditorium to
commemorate Bangamata's great sacrifice and dedication to her family, society and the nation.
The programs began with the placing of floral wreaths by Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA
Muhammad Imran at the bust of the Father of the Nation and at the portrait of Bangamata in the
afternoon. Officials and employees of the Mission were present on the occasion.
The messages issued by Hon’ble President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Hon’ble Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out by Defence Attaché Brigadier General Md Shahedul
Islam and First Secretary (Passport and Visa) Muhammad Abdul Hye Milton.
Later, two documentaries on the life and works of Bangamata were screened which was
followed by a discussion session.
Taking part in the discussion, Bangladesh Ambassador Muhammad Imran paid rich tributes to
Bangamata and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled Bangamata’s great
contribution to the great War of Liberation and rebuilding the war-ravaged nation.

The Ambassador mentioned Fazilatun Nesa Mujib’s outstanding role as the trusted life partner
of the Father of the Nation and said she nurtured Bangabandhu’s ideology in her life and grew
up her children in the same ideology as well.
Ambassador Imran said Bangabandhu and Bangamata’s able daughter Hon’ble Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina has been working ceaselessly to build a happy and prosperous ‘Smart
Bangladesh’ by following the identical teaching, ideology and spirit.

The Ambassador said the ideology and examples that Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib has left
would remain as a source of inspiration for the Bengali womenfolk forever. He simultaneously
hoped that the new generations would be enlightened and inspired in patriotism by practicing
Bangamata’s life.
Minister (Press) AZM Sajjad Hossain also took part in the discussion and focused on different
aspects of colorful life and works of Bangamata. Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib played a
courageous role in taking independence and freedom struggle to right direction by providing
inspiration and strength to Bangabandhu as well as the party leaders and activists, he said.

The programs ended with offering a special prayer, seeking eternal peace for departed souls of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, their family
members, and others martyred on the fateful night of 15 August 1975. First Secretary Md Ataur
Rahman conducted the function.
