From the first hours of Russia’s invasion on February 24, 2022, VOA’s reporters were on the scene in Ukraine. In the year since, VOA has continually provided comprehensive coverage of the conflict in 48 languages for the people of Ukraine, Russia and the entire world. While VOA’s Eastern Europe Chief chronicled the Ukrainian people's struggles to cope at home, VOA followed the journeys of millions forced out of the country by the conflict. For example, the VOA Latin America Division project “Border to Border” followed Ukrainians as they sought to come to the U.S. via Mexico.
In Asia, VOA covered the U.S. government's warnings that China stay out of the conflict, while in the U.S., journalists covered all sides of Washington’s response to the invasion. In countries as diverse as China, Vietnam, Iran, Indonesia, Georgia, Albania, Myanmar and countries throughout Latin America, audiences demonstrated strong interest, watching VOA news videos more than 2.4 billion times on social media platforms and accessing website coverage 83.5 million times for content, including live, simultaneously translated public remarks by U.S. officials.
VOA traces its history to World War II. Now, 81 years later, and 12 months into a new European conflict, VOA continues to serve as a consistently reliable and authoritative source of news, fulfilling its commitment to provide accurate, objective and comprehensive news and information to audiences worldwide.
